One-ness Two-ness – Positive Negative

The Paradox of the Life Force

by Ed Leach and Holger Kypke

I’ve used this analogy before as I believe it’s maybe the easiest way to understand the paradox of the Creative Life-Force or Creative Impulse. It’s the analogy of an electric current flowing between the poles of a battery. The energy potential, measured in voltage, causes a current to flow from the positive to the negative pole. In this example, voltage is synonymous with tension, and tension constitutes a potential imbalance in the stability and harmony of the system. Tension creates a possibility for something to happen. A powerful example of tension can be experienced in Simon & Garfunkel’s rendition of Silent Night, in which the uplifting words of the song are expertly mixed with the depressing and tragic delivery of the nightly news broadcast. The tension these two contrasts creates can have an affect on even the most hardened of hearts.

The former, perfectly in perfect equipoise discharged state of rest and stability, where nothing was possible, has been set into a state of imbalance through the separation of the “oneness state of rest” becoming “two poles of potential unrest.” One could also say that the battery, in its discharged state as such, was “non-existent,” and has “come to life,” through getting charged up.

At this point, Oneness becomes Two-ness, or duality. Some ‘thing’ has come into being where there was no ‘thing’ previously. We could say that a stage for creation, or a stage for something upon which to take place, has come into being. Now, let the play begin! Suddenly, there is “life” and there are possibilities or potentials, an infinite number of potential possibilities, or roles, to be enacted by this newly emerged current of life. The show of life is now on the road. Now, because of the imbalance arising from this system of duality, the unstoppable tendency for the system is now to return to the original state of oneness. Science tells us that an electric current will continue flow from the pole of highest potential to the pole of lowest potential until the tension is equalized again. It expresses itself, or becomes evident, in the example of our battery, by lighting a lamp, or driving a motor, for instance. In nature it is expressed through the actions of the living energy that animates everything; animals, plants, microbes, planets and universes. It is this motive force, this Life-Force that is the Power behind our acting, our feeling, and our thinking. It’s the Power we call Evolution, which affects growth and change. From a purely spiritual perspective, we can call this tendency, Love, and its expression is service, or devotion which is ‘Love-in-Action.’

So, the tendency of this creative tension, this disturbed state of duality, is to reunify its poles and return to the original undisturbed state of perfect, discharged oneness. This implies that the motivation of the creative impulse must therefore be toward achieving this state of oneness, to discharge itself completely until perfect equilibrium is again attained. Yet, as can be observed, the outcome of creation is not the peace of oneness, but the apparent chaos of multiplicity. Instead of unity, more duplicity is created. The creative movement leads away from oneness, rushing headlong into further duality. Any attempt to regain peace creates more disturbance, as increasingly more of some ‘thing” is coming into existence.

This is the paradox of the creative impulse. The original desire for attaining peace has created the opposite: more disturbance. What gives? This seems to be entirely against the fundamental principles of evolution governed by the laws of like-attracts-like. In an unbiased system, if we desire one thing, it is impossible to receive something else. We must have desired the other thing for it to be attracted to us. There is no other way. What’s really going on?

The Great Cheat

For this kind of phenomenon to occur in the realm of known science, there has to be an incongruence somewhere. In other words, it appears that there’s a glitch built into the system, a deception posing as one thing but delivering something else. It starts with the very notion of our own self. If we have created something in spite of ourselves, then we are not who we think, feel, or believe we are. There is more to our “self” than we know, and this something has apparently control over us.

You might say, “Of course Ed, there is the vast field of the unconscious mind which certainly exercises control over us and greatly biases our decisions in life.” But I’m alluding to a pristine, unbiased system, the Universal Creative Principle, active in every living being from atoms and microbial life forms, right up to human beings. The inherent longing of the creative impulse, expressing itself as these unlimited life forms, is to regain the undisturbed state of oneness. But obviously, it’s ever moving to greater diversification of nature, forever creating more action.

So, is it possible that the compelling urge of the creative impulse is for attaining something other than oneness after all? Maybe the yearning for oneness comes from somewhere else. Maybe the compulsion for oneness serves another purpose, the object being to perpetuate the unfolding of creation. If this is true, we have two opposing forces working here. One force exerting itself in an effort to return to the source, before it all started, and the other force discharging itself in the endless creative process.

Science vs. Religion

At this point we need to ask a few fundamental questions: “Who or what was it that charged the battery in the first place? How did it suddenly become charged and “come to life”? Where does the energy come from and what kind of intelligence is at work here, responsible for this action?” This is the point where “science” closes its books and “religion” takes over: “Of course, religions tell us that the answer is God. God charged the battery and is the intelligence responsible for everything.” End of story. Great, is that the kind of game God is playing with us here, we’re wanting one thing and get the opposite instead, like some kind of joke where the dummy is led around in circles by the smart one dangling the proverbial carrot? “Serves him right if he is so stupid to fall for the trick....”

Well yes. Isn’t this exactly the type of attitude which has gotten us where we are now? So there must be some truth in it then after all. Or? But, God playing this kind of game? I don’t know. What about the devil? How about hanging it on him instead. Yeah. Great idea. Let’s blame it on him. But hey, wait a minute. Isn’t that exactly how the poor devil was created in the first place, as a scapegoat for everything we can’t figure out, can’t measure with our scientific devices, can’t comprehend with our limited minds, to avoid being responsible for our selves? Well? Isn’t that right?

If so, then we have the answer: The devil did it to us and is still doing it, that old rascal!            A person close to my heart once said: “I believe in God, but I am not sure I trust Him so much,” which pretty much sums it up. How can we realistically be expected to have trust even in a concept called “God” when neither his/her/its existence, nor that of his/her/its creation, nor our role in it, has been clearly and intelligently explained to us? Since none of us received an operations manual upon entering this world, the matter is entirely one of speculation, commonly termed: “Belief.” And when our “belief systems” differ, are we to hate each other, mistrust each other, and start wars over our mutual ignorance?

Entropy versus Negentropy

Admittedly, I’m being a bit cynical. But something about the whole thing has seriously been left out or mis-communicated, leading to this apparent and horrendous misunderstanding. Let’s go back to the main subject. I was making an analogy of life and an electric battery. The beauty of science is that it is ubiquitously applicable to every situation. Else it isn’t science.

We found that a current of electricity starts flowing from one pole to another because of the inherent tendency to equalize the electric potential measured as voltage. The current does not rest until the potential of both poles is evenly discharged and the battery is “dead.” This is our first law: The tendency to equalize. Energy flows from a higher to a lower potential (Newton’s Law).

Why is this so? Classical thermodynamics describes this phenomenon as Entropy. It means that whatever comes into or manifests in this universe has to die again. Whatever you bring home as your earnings will eventually be spent. If you kick a bucket the water will spill out. A block of ice will melt in the sun. Drink your coffee before it gets cold. Everyone has experienced this phenomenon. It is the fundamental structure of our physical reality and no one in their right mind would question it. Yet there is an entirely separate and distinct aspect to reality, the one our human brain has a tough time bending around.

Opposed to this trend is another universal tendency, which instead of lowering, dissipating, and spilling the energy, rather increases its potentials. It is the power of Negentropy, which is imbued with a tendency to order, to concentrate and to refine energy. We can say that the former power is destructive, and the latter constructive. In Hindu mythology these powers are called Shiva, and Brahma, respectively, the great personified deities or Energies in charge of running this creation.

Science fully acknowledges and describes, in great detail, the destructive aspect of creation and what happens to energy (and matter) as it moves downward towards its oblivion of “discharge.” All of nature, with all her multifarious phenomena, is the manifestation of the journey of energy through time and space, and mathematics is the tool used to describe this amazing voyage.

There are, however, two questions science has no rational answer for: 1.) Where did the energy come from and where is it going? 2.) What is the nature of life and of death? For that we have to look at the greater picture and take a step back beyond the narrow confines of our physical universe.

As Above, So Below

Imagine our universe (which is about 30 billion light-years in diameter) as a closed system similar to that of a single cell. Inside the cell are all sorts of facilities like the cell nucleus, the mitochondria, and other things like organs inside our body or stars and galaxies in the cosmos. It goes to say: As above so below, the macrocosm is in the microcosm, the microcosm is in the macrocosm, what happens on the big scale is reflected on the small scale. It’s essentially all the same set-up, working by the identical set of laws, rules, and regulations.

A cell is always bathed in intercellular fluids, which supply it with nourishment and carry its metabolic wastes away. This is the very special function of saltwater. The cell is embedded in a life support system of a special bionic fluid medium, which in the beginning, were our terrestrial, prehistoric oceans. As life forms evolved, land animals emerged from these primal seas. To carry on with their necessary metabolic functions, they had to take the saltwater with them, inside their bodies. Thus, our bodies are ingenious containers, housing this inner ocean of precious intercellular fluids; our personalized, portable, essence-of-life.

Without a single exception, all life forms in nature operate by this principle. No existing system ever stands by itself. There is always a larger envelope, a bigger container. There is always a greater whole for anything to be part and parcel of. There is always an exchange of some kind, a give and take involved, according to the principle of: One man’s garbage is another man’s gold. There is always a supply line going in and a disposal line leading out. In fact, this may be said to be the very criteria of life itself. If this principle is going on, we are looking at a living system. And if a system is alive, this principle must be motivating it.

Selfless Service

In the same manner, our physical universe can be seen as a cellular unit embedded in the life-giving fluid of the great ocean of the next higher level. What we call ‘life’ is really the universal energy that runs everything and out of which everything is made. Instead of water for the cells of our bodies, there is light for the cells of the cosmos. The difference being merely a variation in vibration, energy being the one name for everything. The arena of time and space, our universe, is supplied with life-energy from the surrounding, interpenetrating ocean of subtle light, light=life=love. The points of entry are called portals or singularities in science. A portal is always in the form of a vortex, an energy swirl, which provides a doorway into the ‘beyond’ where “fresh” energy enters and “used” energy exits.

Life is dependent upon these portals and the portals are a requisite to life. All of creation, all of life, literally revolves around these portals. Understandably, this subject has been cloaked in a veil of greatest secrecy throughout the ages. Energy is life and life is enjoyment and everything living, every creature, in all of creation is, after all, only seeking enjoyment. Instead of eking out meager lives by stealing each other’s protoplasm, having to subsist on sucking each other’s blood, wouldn’t it be great to be able to just tap straight into a portal and suck up the juice straight, from the source? If we could, there would no longer be struggles, strife, no wars, no conflicts over anything or anybody.

The big question here is whether we are ready for this special privilege. There is a reason in the greater design of Nature for our dependency on food and involvement in sociological interactions. Life is our classroom for evolution and  man-making and in this forge we are cast to learn to master ourselves and rise above the evolutionary biological human condition. The criterion for graduation from our dualistic classroom is the extent of overcoming the very trait by which we evolved, the hard-wired evolutionary dualism of competition.

If we have learned to serve each other as one family by having the other one’s desires and needs also in our heart we may be ready to be entrusted more efficient and more powerful means and energies of service. These “other” ones, however, include everything in creation, not just our friends, relatives, neighbors, and perhaps, our countries. It’s all-inclusive, the welfare of animals, plants, and the whole Mother Earth. I have included a paragraph here regarding the subject of eating animal flesh. In the words of the late Kirpal Singh:

“Love is the sublime experience of the heart, for where true love dwells there is sanctity, and the lover knows compassion for all life. True love enfolds within itself the concept of self-surrender, the surrendering of one’s life to the way of love. Love is both the motivating energy and the fulfillment of all life. Love transcends any system of metaphysics, for it transcends the intellect, reason, knowledge and emotion. When our inner eye is truly open, we can see all beings as manifestations of God’s love.

“The secret of all cosmic unity lies in the apparent duality of God and God-beyond-God. Life is an immense circuit of power, stemming from God-beyond-God in the first place and from God in the second place.” In his example, Kirpal Singh refers to “God and God-beyond-God” as an apparent duality bearing the secret of all cosmic unity. We refer to it as the “great cheat.” God is the creative impulse, the discharging current, the amperage which drives the machinery and is responsible for creation, whereas God-beyond-God is the power, the voltage, which charged the battery in the first place, the life-supporting medium within which the cell of creation, also called the egg of creation, is immersed. Again, we are looking at a hierarchical procession of inclusive systems, God-beyond-God being the greater one.

The criterion is how we use the creative impulse working through us, this current of energy bamboozling our senses by pretending to achieve equilibrium in oneness by discharging itself into duality. The current may have one intention of perpetuating its creation, our intention is to return to the state of peace and oneness. To differentiate between the two and to consequently know which choices to make is

the crucial subject of evolution and spiritual liberation.

Thus we are back to our story of the paradox of the creative impulse.

In a direct sense the creative impulse is evidently impinging itself on us. It figures that we must be separate from it and are being used by it for its own purposes. It thereby tricks us into believing it is working in our favor. We are deceived and we are played. Under the sway of its hypnotic influence, which it exerts on our understanding we are completely identified with the wide variety of sensations and feelings it creates in us, assuming them to be our own thoughts and feelings. Time and again, it is proven to us that the way to oneness and peace isn’t found on this road, but the compelling force of the creative current is stronger than reasoning.

The paradox of the creative impulse may therefore be said to be our own ignorance and weakness to realize our true selves as creators of the creative impulse instead of believing ourselves dependent on it. The acute necessity to assume our true position in the game of life as masters of our own minds and of creation emerges as a logical consequence.

On another level the creative impulse reveals energetic conditions relating to portals that otherwise would not be that easily had. The state of a charged battery constitutes a disturbance in the time-space matrix, which again is clearly indicative of a singularity, a non-linear contraction or expansion of the matrix field. In general terms this is called a portal. Portals are always vortices.

The reason why electricity flows from the positive pole of the battery to the negative is simply because the negative pole is manifesting a vortex with negative, inward, spin, and the positive pole one with positive, outward, spin. Thus the creative impulse begins to flow in form of an electric current. The charging process itself is setting a vortex into motion. A charged state is synonymous with the presence of a vortex-portal. This holds true for any kind of energy at any level in any region of creation. Therefore it can be postulated that:

1. The prerequisite for activity of the universal creative current is the presence of an open portal.

2. The presence of an open portal indicates an energetically charged state.

3. An energetically charged state is a tuned up receptor site, or an open vortex-portal for the transit of energy.

4. The transit of energy is the universal creative impulse in action in form of a current in any possible form: thoughts, feelings, emotions, light, heat, x-rays, radio, sound waves, any movement whatsoever.

It may also be said that the very existence of life in creation is due to the presence of at least one open portal in each respective body, whether of a physical, astral, or causal nature. Taken one step further this means that each atom, each subatomic particle is itself a portal. It is a wave and a particle at the same time, oscillating in and out of existence, right at the threshold to the next higher dimension.

If we see the universe as a cellular structure embedded in a vastly greater ocean of life-giving light whence energy is entering and exiting through “cellular receptor-sites” called portals, singularities or black-holes, then the question is what is next, where does it all come from and where does it end, and especially where do we come from?

Now here science is stuck. But why is it so difficult to take this next step? Science is approaching the problem from the wrong side. Evidence of the existence of worlds beyond has become overwhelming and undeniable to open minds. Yet science is trying to get there from here, from the physical world by means of the rational mind. It is like a fish trying to describe the world of a bird as seen from underwater. The way is through a faculty other than the mind. The way is through the heart. The portal of the heart grants access to the worlds beyond. The heart transcends the limitations set by the rational mind. Primarily this addresses the way we look at reality and go about our search and research. All answers to all questions are already right in front of our noses at all times, we just have to learn to decipher the information. We have to learn to understand the original language of nature, of creation, of the heart.

Evidently this is the job of a true scientist, and there have been many like this, scientists of life on every possible level contributing to the great flow of evolution of consciousness, each in their own beautiful way. At this level the whole quest turns into a love story. If you are out to tap into the secrets of creation you better love Mother Nature, you better love and respect each and every player of the creative divine play. How else could you expect to be admitted?

To see and especially recognize the answers to the great questions of life you will have to adopt an elevated vantage point from where to survey this lower physical world. Love is the criterion for admission to this platform, a love strong enough to make the rational mind subservient to its behest, the only power capable of subduing the stark reality of the mystical dragon of lower self-centeredness. In other words: Your consciousness has to be able to resist the full thrust of the creative impulse trying to drag it where it wants in thought, word, feeling and action. Thus you establish yourself as master of your own faculties, and then you are trustworthy in the eyes of God, or Mother Nature.

You may think that this is just some story I am telling but there are, in fact, powers whose job it is to prevent anybody’s consciousness from accessing and understanding higher truths who has not proven himself fit for receiving them. There is the sandbox for the little ones and the bigger playground for older children.

Now, instead of trying to figure out the next mathematical formula for describing the nature of black holes, the question is how to describe, understand and cultivate the nature of this love. Once you got that down you can then look at your black hole from the inside out and know where it came from and where it is going, in the same way as the fish knows how to swim and the bird knows how to fly. This may not get you an entry into a popular science magazine or win you the Nobel Prize, but you will then know, and that is sufficient for you personally. The rest is in the hands of the powers. So, you’re up for it, or what? To open your heart, of course…
